Collaboration with High School Science Club

In Mahindra United World College India (MUWCI) there are a variety of service activities that are offered. One such service that involves off-campus engagement is called High School Science which is a mainly student-run endeavour. With rural schools being unable to offer laboratory facilities, children from a nearby rural school, Kule School, come every week and students from MUWCI help them navigate the facilities here and essentially cover the whole practical part of their syllabus. With there being a possibility of working with those who offer this activity, we, as a team, thought it was a great opportunity to not only demonstrate our robot, but also, more importantly, interact with the visiting students and give them some idea of how if they would like, we could work with them towards providing more facilities and thus working with more projects as well. It was a fruitful session as we were also able to address larger issues. For example, we explained how there are certain streams in academics which are associated with fixed demographic and how our team, with its cultural diversity and cooperation, only proves that these stereotypes don’t hold true. There was a lot of interest shown by the children from Kule and with members who are part of both the Robotics team as well as the High School Science activity. We feel that there is only growth that will follow and that in small steps we can work to improve the opportunities for others who live with us
